HISTORY

The Student Leadership Council was formed in 1998 when the members of Lee University's Student Government Association (SGA) realized that their organization had become ineffective in its purpose to serve the student body.

They voted to disband the SGA and form a new organization focused on the principles of servant-leadership. Instead of having officers for each class, the SLC would have a secretary to focus on the different facets of student involvement. The Senate would be open to all students as a forum for student concerns to be heard and met.

While the organization has undergone many changes over the years, its core values have remained the same. The SLC has added committees and dissolved others as we have grown and come to understand our place and purpose on the Lee Campus. In recent years the SLC has continued to expand its focus on service to the community, as well as implementing programs that purposefully develop students into better leaders on Lee University's campus and beyond.

The SLC continues to look for innovative ways to implement its core values as it helps students understand their role as leaders in an ever-changing culture. Now at the ten-year anniversary of the start of SLC, we hope to continue to serve our campus with your help. Thanks to all who have made SLC possible.
